Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Project

We endeavor to preserve traditional Korean painting and express its appreciation to the world.

Kyomjae Jeong Seon Kyomjae is his pen name meaning humble study and Jeong is his family name. He was born in Seoul in 1676 and died in 1759. As a prominent painter in late Joseon Dynasty (1700-1850), he is regarded the founder of Korean true-view landscape painting(Jinkyung Sansuhwa). Departing from the traditional Chinese styles, his realistic painting reflects most of the geographical features of Korea.

Traditional East Asian art is based on the Wu wei, which is the most important philosophy in Taoism. It emphasizes the concept of nonaction or noninterference with the natural order of things. Artists drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the local scenery and pursued harmony between human and nature.

    1. Organizing the exhibition with artists who takes on and reinterpret traditional Asian motif in contemporary ways
    2. Offering academic forum and conference of the philosophy of Asian art and traditional East Asian art
    3. Exchange exhibition program between Korean and German art students
